statement late Thursday afternoon saying that the intervention
police had not used force during protests staged by workers of
Sisak's Ironworks, and there had been no injuries. #L#
"Concerning information that the police intervention unit had used
means of force resulting in injuries, at this time we can say that
that information is completely incorrect," the statement, signed
by the ministry's spokeswoman, Zinka Bardic, said.
Interior Minister Sime Lucin, who arrived in Sisak, said police had
acted professionally and under orders of the Police Directorate.
Since police have video tapes of the event, as is usual for public
gatherings, they have been viewed and confirm that there was no
overstepping of authority, the statement said.
It is evident that "somebody intended to cause an incident and the
intervention of police which performed their task professionally
and did not fall for provocation," the ministry said.
