Tafra of the Croatian Bloc (HB) recently stated in parliament that
"for two and a half years, since the change of government, a
campaign has been led against the Homeland Defence War and Croatian
veterans, and two thirds of retired generals are generals who
acquired military skills during the Homeland Defence War."
According to the ministry's reply, since 3 January 2000 twenty (20)
generals left the service, and five of them had been educated by the
JNA.
Of the 20 generals in question, two have been retired to receive
old-age pension, the employment of one general is "inactive", one
has been transferred to the reserves units, given that he was the
defence minister until the end of January 2000, 14 have been retired
pursuant to a decision of the President of the Republic, who is the
army's supreme commander, two are not in the service, also pursuant
to a decision of the President.
The defence ministry informed Tafra that at the moment there were 28
generals (from Brigadier General to Staff General) serving in the
ministry and the armed forces. All of them took part in the Homeland
War, and 16 had been trained in the JNA.
