SISAK: WAR VETERANS BROUGHT IN FOR QUESTIONING

SISAK, Nov 15 (Hina) - Members of a co-ordinating body of Sisak County war veterans' associations told reporters in Sisak on Friday that "some 30 war veterans from the county have been brought in for questioning at the county police department, where they were questioned about their participation in the Homeland War and the actions and conduct of town and county officials during the war". #L# Velimir Kvesic, the head of the co-ordinating body, called on veterans to ignore police notices for interviews and, if brought in by force, to keep silent and not give any statements without the presence of an attorney, who would be provided by war veterans' associations. Kvesic urged the police to "bring in for questioning amnestied Chetniks who should answer who killed 1,500 innocent civilians from Sisak County during the Homeland War and where the graves of 300 missing Croatian soldiers and civilians are". He stated the questioning was "an act of criminalisation of Croatian soldiers and the Homeland War, done under the pressure of the international community, with the participation of Croatian authorities". County police spokesman Petar Masic confirmed today that the department had been interviewing, at the request of the county prosecutor, some people about events in the Sisak area in 1991 and 1992. The purpose of the interviews, he said, was to establish facts and shed light on some events due to suspicion that criminal acts had been committed.
