ZAGREB, Oct 29 (Hina) - A delegation of the Croatian Democratic
Union (HDZ), led by president Ivo Sanader, visited General Janko
Bobetko at his Zagreb home on Tuesday night. #L#
"We discussed the situation and informed Gen. Bobetko about the
view adopted at yesterday's HDZ Presidency session: one should wait
for the ruling of the international war crimes tribunal's appeals
chamber, and if it turns out to be negative, we should initiate a
discussion at the UN Security Council," Sanader said after the
visit.
General Bobetko makes decisions for himself and should not be
underestimated, Sanader said, expressing regret that "the prime
minister spoke about Bobetko in the manner he did, calling party
leaders to influence him".
"On behalf of the HDZ, I wish to calm the Croatian public and say
that Croatia, as a member of the UN, has the right to move a
discussion on the work of the Hague-based tribunal," he said.
The HDZ leader called on all citizens to respect legal order, common
sense and peace. "Contentious issues should be solved by political
means and within political institutions in Croatia and the
international community," Sanader stressed.
A party vice-president, Andrija Hebrang, said he disagreed with
Health Minister Andro Vlahusic who said that Bobetko's home
treatment cost EUR27,000.
"Members of General Bobetko's doctors' consultation are working
voluntarily and in their own time, the medical equipment has been
donated, with only a small part of it from "Dubrava" hospital, which
is spare equipment anyhow," Hebrang said.
