BELGRADE, Oct 21 (Hina) - The Serbian Supreme Court on Monday
overruled an appeal lodged by Vojislav Kostunica's Democratic
Party of Serbia against the results of the Oct. 13 second round of a
presidential ballot. #L#
In the appeal the party claimed that the electoral turnout had been
more than 50 percent, but the Supreme Court established that
voters' lists contained the names of some 600,000 non-existent
voters.
With this ruling, the results of the unsuccessful ballot, as
presented by the Serbian election commission, which established
that less than half the electorate had gone to the polls, have
become final, the Supreme Court said in a statement.
Even though the decision has not been delivered to Kostunica's
party yet, its vice president Dragan Marsicanin in a statement to
Beta news agency reiterated that the party would honour the court's
decision, whatever it might be.
