The Croatian delegation arrived in China on Monday and during the
visit which is to last several days, Croatian parliamentarians will
also visit Beijing and Hong Kong.
Annual Gross Domestic Product in Shanghai per capita amounts to
US$4,500, while in the rest of China it amounts to only US$800.
Shanghai's amazing economic growth is visible the most in Pudong,
the futurist part of the city with over 200 skyscrapers.
A great industrial zone and numerous research institutes are also
in Pudong.
Since the beginning of this year, Pudong, established in 1990,
marked a 15 percent economic growth. There are no Croatian
companies in Shanghai and barely any in China. Croatia's export to
China amounts to only US$2 million per year, while import from China
amounts to about US$140 million.
This was one of the topics of talks between Tomcic and the
chairwoman of the Permanent Committee to Shanghai's People's
Congress, Chen Tiedi, held on Monday. The two officials agreed that
the two countries' good political relations were good foundations
for the strengthening of economic cooperation. They also concluded
there was room for advancing economic cooperation between Zagreb
and Shanghai.
The Croatian delegation will be visiting Shanghai until Wednesday,
after which the parliamentarians will travel to Beijing. In the
Chinese capital, Croatia's parliament head will hold talks with his
host, the president of the All-China People's Congress, Li Peng.
