The two officials said they had discussed bilateral relations and
open questions and supported the temporary fishing regime in Piran
Bay that was agreed by a local border sub-commission on fishing with
the support of both governments.
Tomcic said that the stand of the Croatian government on the border
agreement that had been initialled last year was clear and that the
agreement was not acceptable for the Croatian public, while Pahor
expressed regret that Croatia had backed out of the agreement.
"We are ready to continue bilateral talks, but we are also ready to
conclude an agreement on international arbitration," Tomcic said,
adding that solving the problem of foreign savings deposits of
Croatian clients in Ljubljanska Banka Zagreb would help solve other
open questions as well.
Pahor replied that Slovenia's official stand on the matter was that
the issue of Ljubljanska Banka clients was a succession issue.
Tomcic said he expected that the Slovene parliament would ratify
the agreement on the Krsko nuclear power plant, which the Croatian
parliament had already done.
