ZAGREB, Oct 3 (Hina) - During a debate on a strategy of the macro-
economic development of Croatia, all parliamentary benches on
Thursday agreed that the main objective of the national economic
policy was the country's accession to the European Union, as a basis
for the macro-economic development of the country. #L#
The benches supported the government's strategy, and assessed that
the economic growth would depend on when Croatia would be admitted
to the European Union (EU) and international economic integration
processes, which would guarantee a long-term and sustainable
development.
All what hampers the country's bids to enter the EU, also hampers
its economic growth, the party benches agreed.
Parliamentarians said it would be of key importance to increase the
Gross Domestic Product (GDP), cut the unemployment rate, stimulate
systematically the export, reduce the foreign debt, educate
Croatian citizens and use their knowledge, as well as to strengthen
the fiscal and monetary policies and ensure the legal security.
Economy Minister Ljubo Jurcic informed MPs that the strategy of the
macro-economic development for the 2001-2015 period was based on an
open export-oriented economy with the improvement of the standard
of living.
The strategy projects the annual growth rate in GDP of five percent
until 2015, with the strengthening of the economic and social
stability, export, competitiveness, the modernisation of the
technical equipment and investment in education and science.
