The legal representative of the late president's daughter, Ante
Vukorepa, proposed disciplinary measures against the reporters
from the Jutarnji list daily, Croatian Television (HTV) and the
Nacional weekly because of their articles about an alleged
indictment against Nevenka Tudjman due to an affair of rigging
contracts for the installation of telephone board switches in a
series of state institutions.
At the end of November last year, an investigation was completed
before the Zagreb County Court into Nevenka Tudjman who was
suspected of illegally mediating, or rather using her status as the
daughter of the country's president, to enable Igor Knezevic
contracts through which he earned over 1.36 million euros. It is
suspected that Knezevic paid Tudjman's daughter more than 272,000
euros in commission.
Following the five month investigation the file was forwarded to
the Zagreb Municipal Prosecutor and later taken over by the USKOK
(government's office combating organised crime).
Acting head of the USKOK, Zeljko Zganjer, recently said that an
indictment had not been issued and that a decision on the matter
would be brought by mid October.
