PULA, Sept 12 (Hina) - The Istrian branch of the non-parliamentary Croatian True Revival (HIP) party, led by the late Croatian President Franjo Tudjman's son Miroslav, on Thursday commented statements made by a leader of the Istrian
Democratic Assembly, Damir Kajin, to the Slovenian "Delo" daily in which he said the late President Tudjman offered Piran Bay to Slovenia in return for arms in 1992. The HIP claims these statements were the result of Kajin's pathological hatred towards the first Croatian president.
PULA, Sept 12 (Hina) - The Istrian branch of the non-parliamentary
Croatian True Revival (HIP) party, led by the late Croatian
President Franjo Tudjman's son Miroslav, on Thursday commented
statements made by a leader of the Istrian Democratic Assembly,
Damir Kajin, to the Slovenian "Delo" daily in which he said the late
President Tudjman offered Piran Bay to Slovenia in return for arms
in 1992. The HIP claims these statements were the result of Kajin's
pathological hatred towards the first Croatian president. #L#
In an interview for the Delo, Damir Kajin said that it was
hypocritical for the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) to attack
Racan's government for bartering with national interests with
Slovenia because the late president Tudjman, offered the whole of
Piran Bay to Slovenia.
Kajin also said he had the information that the then president
Tudjman in 1992 offered some Slovenian ministers (Kajin did not
specify which) that he would give Piran Bay to Slovenia in exchange
for arms, however, Ljubljana did not accept the proposal.
The HIP Istrian branch notes that Kajin made these claims as an
argument with the intent of absolving the incumbent Prime Minister
Ivica Racan from any responsibility for the anti-constitutional
act of giving away Croatian territory to Slovenia.
HIP says that the late president had diametrically opposing values
with regard to national and state interest and that he fought for
the defence of Croatian territory and did not trade with it.
Emphasising that this is well known by the entire Croatian nation
and citizens of Croatia, the Istrian HIP claimed that Kajin knew
this as well however, he was spreading lies at the account of the
late head of state in a bid to turn the attention of Istrian citizens
and Croatia on the whole from topics that everyone is currently
talking about in Istria. This refers to the sale of the most
valuable properties and real estate by the leadership of the IDS,
particularly coastline properties as well as money laundering in
favour of financial-banking groups from Austria and Italy.
The Istrian HIP announced that it would consider filing a suit
against Kajin for slandering the late Croatian President.
