ZAGREB, Sept 27 (Hina) - At the start of a parliamentary discussion
on the implementation of the Croatian constitutional law on
cooperation with the UN war crimes tribunal in connection to the
tribunal's indictment against General Janko Bobetko, the
parliament's head, Zlatko Tomcic, assessed on Friday morning that
the activities the government had so far taken in cooperation with
the Sabor were the legitimate and responsible behaviour of the
government in attempts to find a fair and legal solution. #L#
At the beginning of the parliamentary debate, Tomcic held an
introductory speech in which he stressed that Croatia was faced
with the need to make a difficult and responsible decision in
connection with the indictment.
He added that the gravity of this issue caused various political
reactions.
He appealed to everybody to overcome differences as to achieve a
joint stand, given that the formulation of different policies can
hamper the accomplishment of the joint interests. Otherwise,
Croatia might be destabilised and it might be made impossible for
the country to defend its national interests, Tomcic warned.
He assessed that all the political parties and the government
reached agreement that the dignity of the Homeland War need to be
protected.
Tomcic said everything should be done to defuse the situation in the
country and that discussions on the indictment should be held at
state institutions.
He called for tolerance, political responsibility and harmony,
adding that those were the foundations on which the Croatian State
had been created.
He stressed that Croatia should honour all the international
commitments it assumed.
