Asked to comment on the alleged attempts on his life, Mesic said
there were always people who were not really thrilled with him. "But
that they would decide to send me off to the eternal hunting-ground
before time, I don't believe there is anyone like that, I don't
think so," Mesic said.
Mesic was also asked to comment on the establishment of a new
political party by a former Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ)
official, Ivic Pasalic. "This is a great thing for medicine,
medicine has been saved," Mesic said alluding to the fact that
Pasalic holds a PhD.
Asked when could customs' duties between Croatia and Yugoslavia be
revoked, the head of state said Croatia was signing agreements with
all neighbouring countries and wanted to do the same with
Yugoslavia.
He said Croatia wanted to liberalise its traffic and economic
cooperation as much as possible, which means that it must create
legal frameworks for the implementation of liberalisation.
Commenting on the latest announcements that Croatia could be
admitted to NATO as late as 2006, along with Serbia, Mesic said
Croatia would join NATO much earlier.
