seven months amounted to US$8.67 billion, with exports accounting
for US$2.79 billion and imports for US$5.88 billion. The foreign
trade deficit thus climbed to US$3.09 billion, while exports
covered imports by 47.4 percent, the Central Bureau of Statistics

Compared to the same time last year, exports in this year's first
seven months grew by 6.9 and imports by 10.7 percent. The foreign
trade deficit increased by 14.3 percent.
The European Union remains Croatia's chief foreign trade partner.
Exports there amounted to US$1.58 billion, while imports from EU
countries amounted to US$3.3 billion.
Italy remains Croatia's number one trade partner. Exports there
totalled US$742 million, an increase of 22.9 percent, while imports
amounted to US$997.2 million, an increase of 8.7 percent.
Second on the list is Germany. Croatia's exports there dropped by
16.5 percent, to US$343 million, while imports grew by 3.5 percent,
to US$961.2 million.
One of the biggest growths in Croatian exports was recorded in
Greece, of 226.9 percent, amounting to US$50.5 million.
As for Central European Free Trade Agreement markets, Croatian
exports dropped by 0.8 percent, to US$318.3 million, while imports
increased by 21.4 percent, to US$939 million.
First among these is Slovenia, where US$228.3 million worth of
goods were exported, a drop of 5.6 percent, while US$470.2 million
worth of goods were imported, an increase of 12.4 percent.
Croatia recorded a 25.1 percent increase in exports to Bosnia-
Herzegovina, which amounted to US$375.6 million, while imports
totalled US$89.6 million, a growth of 27.6 percent.
Exports to Yugoslavia totalled US$93.4 million, almost the same
amount as in the first seven months of 2001, while imports amounted
to US$29.04 million, an increase of 26 percent.
An increase in trade was also recorded with Hungary, where US$42.6
million worth of goods were exported, a growth of 33 percent.
Croatia imported US$167.7 million worth of goods from there, an
increase of 26.6 percent.
