SIBENIK, Aug 26 (Hina) - A summer school of the Croatian Helsinki
Committee (HHO) entitled "Right to Availability of Information"
began in Sibenik on Monday and will last through August 30. #L#
The school is attended by more than a hundred representatives of
HHO, as well as Croatian and foreign media experts.
HHO Media Council chairman Bozidar Novak, said today that in its
entire history, Croatia had never had such a freedom of the media
and expression as it had today.
He warned, however, that Croatia still lacked a unified system
which would give the public full right to information, as well as
regulations on public files and meetings according to which every
government institution should make their closed sessions open to
the media.
Novak also stressed that Croatia did not have defined forms of
concentration of the media, nor criteria when this concentration
was unacceptable. Lacking were also instruments to prevent
monopoly and stimulating media pluralism, he said.
