assertions on the alleged revival of the Albanian extremism ahead
of the parliamentary election in Macedonia. #L#
Former Albanian King Leka Zogu I rejected Macedonia's allegations
about plans for the set-up of a royal armed force and about his
involvement in such attempts, the Albanian press reported on
Saturday.
"We regret that a certain Macedonian official is trying to hurt the
Albanian-Macedonian relations by using nationalism in relation to
the election," read a statement released by the Albanian foreign
ministry.
The statement, quoted by the press, reads that "the Macedonian
Interior Ministry should first find evidence prior to the utterance
of accusations."
Macedonian Premier Ljubco Georgievski and the interior ministry
claim that a new Albanian armed group - the so-called royal army -
allegedly backed by the above-mentioned king, is planning to attack
police stations in order to destabilise Macedonia prior to the
polls and thus launch the war with the aim of the establishment of "a
Greater Albania".
The former king, who advocates the restoration of the monarchy,
categorically refused the accusations, describing them as
groundless.
He responded that he did not want a war for a Greater Albanian but
the uniting of Albanian-populated areas through peaceful
solutions.
"I am not for the creation of a Greater Albania, but for the uniting
of Albanian areas and not through military ways or violence but
gradually through political diplomacy," Leka Zogu I said.
He announced that he would soon visit Kosovo and Macedonia.
