ZAGREB, July 12 (Hina) - The Ministry of Environmental Protection
and Zoning has been regularly issuing permits for the construction
of public roads and has been working overtime due to the large
number of requests, the ministry said in a statement on Friday, in
response to claims by outgoing Public Works Minister Radimir Cacic.
Cacic today criticised the ministry for discontinuing works on the
Zagreb-Gorican highway. #L#
Commenting on the discontinuation of works on the highway, for
which no permit has been issued yet, Cacic said no highway in
Croatia had a construction permit and they should therefore all be
closed.
He also accused the ministry of bureaucratism and of receiving
bribe.
The ministry responded that Cacic was obliged to inform it of
alleged cases of bribery if he had knowledge about them, so that it
could take adequate measures against officials who received
bribe.
Minister Cacic knows very well that permits cannot be issued
without required documents, the ministry said, adding that the
issuing of construction permits in some cases was prolonged due to
incomplete documentation. It expressed hope that engineering
companies constructing public roads would soon complete their
documentation.
The ministry said that construction permits in cases where required
documentation was complete were issued within six days, and
dismissed claims that between January and June it had not issued
construction permits at all.
