ZAGREB, Aug 10 (Hina) - According to the results from the 2001 census, Croatian women can be satisfied with their share among scientists and experts, but they are still outnumbered by men in the positions in the law-making bodies,
high-ranking officials, senior state officials and directors.

census, Croatian women can be satisfied with their share among
scientists and experts, but they are still outnumbered by men in the
positions in the law-making bodies, high-ranking officials, senior
state officials and directors. #L#
There were 147,270 experts, scholars and scientists in Croatia in
April 2001. They accounted for 9.5 percent of all employed persons.
Regarding the gender structure, 80,700 women (54.8 percent) were
listed in this category compared to some 66,500 male scientists and
experts.
On the other hand, 72 percent of the registered 69,276 legislative
officials, directors and senior state officials were men (i.e.
69,276), while women accounted for only 27.9 percent (or 19,359).
This category of professions made up about 4.5 percent of the total
workforce.
The jobs in the military made up only some two percent in the entire
number of the employed in Croatia. Of a total of 30,244 employed in
the army, 94.5 percent were men, with only 1,655 women who found
jobs in this sector, the Central Bureau of Statistics reported.
