As the Croatian Foreign Ministry reported on Wednesday, the border
crossing will be located along the Uncica river about 50 metres
inside Croatian territory. Border checks will be conducted jointly
by border services of both countries.
With the initialling of the annexe, formal preconditions have been
established to conduct necessary works to build the infrastructure
required for the border crossing. The Croatian government adopted
the annexe at its session of Aug. 1, while the Bosnian Council of
Ministers should do the same on Thursday.
The opening of the border crossing will depend on how quickly
construction can be conducted. The Croatian and Bosnian border
police forces will begin conducting their duties on the state
border even before the crossing is officially opened, most probably
in mid-August.
The Croatian side still expects a reply from the Bosnian Council of
Ministers to a proposal that residents of Hrvatska Kostajnica and
Bosanska Kostajnica be immediately allowed to cross the border at a
temporary check point on the Uncica, the ministry's statement
notes.
