ZAGREB, July 22 (Hina) - So far 196 presidents of the courts, of a
total of 250, have been appointed, the Croatian justice ministry
reported. #L#
Seventeen (17) former presidents have not been re-appointed to this
post, whereas 44 courts have received new presidents.
The procedure of the appointment of court presidents, based on the
amended law on courts and the state judicial council, began in
August last year.
After the Constitutional Court decided that the heads of the courts
could be only judges and not eminent law experts, Justice Minister
Ingrid Anticevic Marinovic annulled previous announcements for
those posts and invited applications for the presidents all the 250
courts in Croatia.
In Croatia there are 110 magistrates' courts, 104 municipal, 12
commercial, 21 county and three courts at the state level:
Administrative, Superior Commercial and Superior Magistrates'
Court.
To date, all the three courts at the state level as well as all the
county and commercial courts have got presidents. Besides,
presidents have been appointed of 84 municipal and 76 magistrates
courts.
The procedure of appointment for vacant posts of 54 court
presidents is under way.
