The talks revolved around a programme for reform in the country's
judiciary.
The minister informed Ambassador Semneby that the government
supported the document and was determined to help modernise the
judicial system.
The modernisation will put a special emphasis on the permanent
education of employees in the judiciary and on the introduction of
information technology in the courts. These moves will be
financially supported by programmes of donations from the European
Union and some countries as well as by a loan from the World Bank.
Commenting on the protection of witnesses, the minister said the
preparations for drawing up a law on the protection of witnesses and
victims of serious crimes were under way, and Croatia, as a
signatory of a international convention on the fight against
transnational organised crime and corruption, was obliged to adopt
such law.
The minister and the OSCE official agreed on promotion permanent
cooperation and contacts between the Croatian justice ministry and
the OSCE mission in the country.
