ZAGREB, July 21 (Hina) - Over one third of the overall spending of the average Croatian household goes for food. The food and housing make up almost a half of the household's personal spending, according to data from a poll conducted
by the Croatian Central Bureau of Statistics in 2001.

The poll covered 3,309 households with 9,458 members.
The average expenditure - both financial and natural - amounted to
61,141 kuna (8,375 euros) or by 2,528 kuna (EUR346) more than in
2000.
The biggest sum of money was earmarked for food and soft drinks with
the share of 33.67 percent in the spending or 20,585 kuna
(EUR2,820). In 2000, the share for the spending on food and soft
drinks was 32.15 percent.
The second biggest group are the housing and the energy consumption
with 13.4 percent in the entire spending of the household.
The third group is transport with the 11.5 percent share.
The spending for clothes and footwear fell from 10 percent in 2000
to 9.13 in 2001.
The share of the spending for culture and recreation fell from 6.7
to 5.85 percent.
The share of spending for alcoholic drinks and cigarettes was 4.05
percent, while for health services two (2) percent.
The expenditure for education (this imply private schools, foreign
language courses, music schools and enrolment fees) totalled 505
kuna (EUR69) or 0.83 percent in the entire spending.
