ZAGREB, July 18 (Hina) - A group of dissatisfied members of the
Croatian Social Liberal Party (HSLS), on Thursday left the party an
announced the establishment of a new party in September. #L#
The founding session of the new party is likely to be held in the end
of September.
These former HSLS members said the reason for their departure was
the political activities of the HSLS upon the re-election of Drazen
Budisa as the chief of that party. They described such activities as
the systematic obstruction of the programme of the government in
which the HSLS had been a coalition partner.
Independent Liberals, as they called their newly-established
parliamentary bench, said at a news conference that the HSLS had
lost its real character due to non-liberal turn in its policy.
Speaking on behalf of Independent Liberals, Jozo Rados said he was
expecting that other members of the HSLS as well as citizens who had
not before been active in the political life, would join this
group.
The Independent Liberals have so far included six (6) out of 23 HSLS
members of the parliament, four ministers, three deputy ministers
and four assistant ministers.
