The association's head, Djuro Glogoski held a news conference on
Thursday in front of the parliament's building informing reporters
that the 100-hundred-percent invalids had received assurances from
some politicians and parliamentarians that the Sabor would discuss
the amendments in the urgent procedure in June, but according to the
latest information, MPs could discuss the matter in September.
We cannot see where the problem lies, Glogoski said.
Under the valid law, the monthly pensions for 475 totally disabled
war veterans are reduced up to 46 percent. Under the draft
amendments, about 18-19 million kuna (approximately 2.55 million
euros) should be earmarked annually from the state budget for the
bonuses such as the assistance of other persons, Glogoski said.
He said war veterans' minister Ivica Pancic supported them, but his
ministry had not yet given exact data about the needs of totally
disabled veterans to the parliamentary committee for war
veterans.
Members of the association were in the parliament between 10 am and
4 pm Wednesday, at the invitation of the amendments' sponsor, but
nobody had enough time to receive them, Glogoski told reporters.
