Jezdimir Arsic, secretary of the Serbian Metal and Power Industry
Association, said the signing of a free trade agreement would
increase and facilitate trade between the two countries. Arsic
believes the agreement would go into force on January 1, 2003.
Miljenko Babic of the Croatian Chamber of Commerce (HGK) Industries
Sector stressed the importance of trade, which he said was modest.
Last year's trade between Croatia and Yugoslavia totalled 186
million US dollars. Croatia's exports to Yugoslavia accounted for
USD147 million of the amount, while imports from Yugoslavia
totalled USD39 million.
Today's meeting was organised by the HGK and the Serbian Chamber of
Commerce, with the aim of promoting economic cooperation.
Participating in the meeting were 20 representatives from Serbian
companies (Ikarus, Prva petoljetka, Zastava, IMT, etc.) and
representatives of some 60 Croatian companies, including the
Viktor Lenac shipyard, Croatia Pumps, Sisak Ironworks, etc.
