ZAGREB, June 24 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic on Monday bestowed high decorations on persons who contributed to the development of the Republic of Croatia. The ceremony was held on the occasion of Statehood Day.

bestowed high decorations on persons who contributed to the
development of the Republic of Croatia. The ceremony was held on the

The highest decoration was awarded to the retired archbishop of
Rijeka, Josip Pavlisic, for his exceptional contribution to the
development of the Croatian state and the development in the
relations between religious communities.
For the first time, a new award - the Croatian National Award for
institutions was presented. At the ceremony it was bestowed on
"Matica Hrvatska", an important Croatian cultural institution,
founded in 1842. It was established at the time of the Croatian
national revival for the promotion of creativity in the fields of
arts and economy. "Matica Hrvatska" won the said award on the 160th
anniversary of its establishment.
Efendi Sevko Omerbasic was awarded for his contribution to the
promotion of the Croatian-Muslim relations.
