Representatives of police unions and associations of unassigned
policemen once again pointed to numerous irregularities in the
process of rationalisation in the Interior Ministry.
They amongst other things noted that based on the Erdut Agreement,
39 Serb nationals were hired without meeting relevant criteria.
"We have nothing against Serbs but some of those hired took part in
the armed conflict against Croatia, many have completed only
elementary school and some even have criminal records," police
union president Dubravko Jagic said.
The Committee for Labour, Health and Social Policies discussed a
bill on foreigners, under which visits of foreign citizens would be
divided into three categories - visits up to 90 days, temporary or
permanent residency.
Foreigners may be able to work on the basis of work permits.
An annual quota for work permits would be introduced. The quota
would be determined by the government by October 31 the previous
year.
The same bill should have been discussed by the Immigration
Committee, however, for lack of a quorum, this was postponed.
