The government's public relations office confirmed on Monday the
meeting would resume at the Prekrizje villa behind closed doors,
focusing on the possible directions and content of the further
reform of the judiciary.
After the May 20 interruption, the meeting was to continue in 15
days but was postponed due to Racan's trip to the United States. In
the meantime, the expert team comprised of Mato Arlovic, Ivica
Crnic, Ingrid Anticevic-Marinovic, and Mladen Bajic was supposed
to draw up the concept of the judiciary reform containing concrete
short- and long-term tasks for the judicial, legislative, and
executive authorities.
Tomorrow's meeting should be attended by senior government
officials and ministers Radimir Cacic, Bozidar Pankretic, and Bozo
Kovacevic so that all five parties making up the ruling coalition
could be represented.
Mato Arlovic, Luka Trconic, and Josip Leko, chairmen of
parliament's justice committees, will attend as representatives of
the legislative authority. The presidents of state-level courts
will attend on behalf of the judicial authority, with Supreme Court
president Ivica Crnic at the helm, as well as State Judicial Council
president Stanko Hautz, and chief state prosecutor Mladen Bajic.
In connection with the reform of the judiciary, the president of the
Social Democrats' (SDP) bench in parliament, Mato Arlovic, today
called on ruling coalition partners as well as other parliamentary
parties to reach a consensus on the judicial reform as soon as
possible.
The SDP bench is willing to endorse a state budget revision if
necessary to ensure the material conditions required for the work
of judges, Arlovic said.
