The donation, presented at the State Prosecutor's Office, is the
result of a bilateral agreement on assistance to the Croatian
police and judiciary, signed by Deputy Prime Minister Goran Granic
and Ambassador Rossin on September 19 last year and ratified by
parliament on December 14.
Rossin said that the key element of the agreement was the
establishment of the office of a legal advisor on Croatia at the US
Embassy in Zagreb, which is headed by Brenda Johnson from the US
Justice Ministry. Her task is to establish close cooperation with
the Justice Ministry and other criminal bodies in Croatia so as to
provide assistance to the Croatian government in its efforts to
reform the judiciary, Rossin said.
The United States will equip USKOK offices in Zagreb, Rijeka, Split
and Osijek with computer equipment worth more than USD50,000. The
donation also includes training for work with the equipment, Rossin
added.
