Kosovo has been faced for a long time with "smuggling, corruption,
drug trade and prostitution which have a very bad effect on Kosovo's
citizens," Prime Minister Bajram Rexhepi told reporters after the
second day of the parliamentary session.
Rexhepi maintains that organised crime in Kosovo is the "legacy of
the totalitarianism of the ex-Yugoslavia which existed and lived
off that activity in Kosovo." After the war, crime in Kosovo has not
only not been stopped but has taken such a hold as to result in the
creation of organised structures which are connected mutually and
with people in power, he said.
Mentioning the government's declaration on organised crime
prevention, the PM hoped it would launch a determined struggle
against this phenomenon in Kosovo, together with the local UN
mission.
MPs of the Serb coalition Povratak failed to nominate their
representatives for the posts of agriculture minister, minister
for the return of the displaced, and counsellor at the cabinet of UN
civil administrator Michael Steiner.
