reported.#L#
An unanimous decision on the discontinuation of the strike was
passed this morning by the central committee of the independent
union of high school teachers, which organised the strike to
protest against the non-signing of a branch collective agreement.
The decision was passed after Education and Sports Minister
Vladimir Strugar and the president of the Independent Union of
Employees in Secondary Schools, Andrija Puljevic, on Tuesday
evening initialled the branch collective agreement.
Puljevic said at a press conference that the strike had entirely
succeeded.
According to him the majority of material rights will apply
immediately after the signing of the agreement, namely in about 15
days, and only a small part by the beginning of next year.
Professors will immediately begin to receive wage supplements for
shift work and double shift working amounting to 10 percent and
bonuses for overtime and the preparation for classes amounting to
50 percent.
All workers will receive public transportation bonuses, along with
late payments for this year. They will also receive field
allowances and per diem allowances for trips.
Other wage supplements - five percent for working in schools in
mountains or on islands and work with children with special needs in
regular classes - will be applied as of the beginning of 2003.
The Education and Sports Ministry and unions will negotiate the
compensation, Christmas bonus and gifts for children ahead of the
adoption of the state budget.
The central committee on Wednesday voted confidence in the
president of union, Puljevic.
