ZAGREB, May 7 (Hina) - The head of the Croatian Employers
Association (HUP), Zeljko Ivancevic, on Tuesday stated that
Monday's session of the Economic-Social Council (GSV) confirmed
that nothing crucial had changed in talks among social partners on
amendments to the Labour Act and that unions' claims about staging a
big strike were just mere fantasy. #L#
Labour relations in Croatia are contractual relations and any
possible changes to the Labour Act will not mean the abolishment or
reduction of any right of those currently employed. This makes
union claims about big strikes irrelevant, Ivancevic said at a
press conference.
He connected the claims to the state of "union cash boxes", which he
says hold barely enough money to cover unionists' salaries, let
alone the organisation of any big strike.
Ivancevic repeated that employers were interested mostly in
raising Croatia's competitiveness and that new solutions to the
Labour Act should be harmonised with that goal.
The HUP Economic Advisory Board estimates in its latest report an
economic growth of 2.8 percent for this year, Ivancevic said. (last
year's growth was 4.1 percent).
