ZAGREB/THE HAGUE, May 3 (Hina) - Former Yugoslav Deputy Prime
Minister Nikola Sainovic told the Hague war crimes tribunal on
Friday he did not feel guilty for the crimes committed in Kosovo in
1999 the prosecution charges him with. #L#
Sainovic pleaded not guilty to all five counts of an indictment
which accuses him of crimes against humanity and breaches of the
customs and laws of war committed through the deportation of
800,000 Kosovo Albanians in 1999, the killing of ethnic Albanians,
the destruction of their property and of religious and cultural
facilities.
Sainovic is accused for the Kosovo crimes alongside former Yugoslav
President Slobodan Milosevic and three of the latter's one-time
closest associates.
Former Yugoslav Army chief-of-staff Dragoljub Ojdanic surrendered
to the UN tribunal at The Hague last week. Another indictee, former
Serbian Interior Minister Vlajko Stojiljkovic, recently committed
suicide.
Also on the indictment is incumbent Serbian President Milan
Milutinovic, but Belgrade refuses to extradite him.
Sainovic surrendered yesterday, together with Momcilo Gruban,
former commander of the Omarska detention camp in Bosnia.
