Lord Ashdown's associates have confirmed to the Sarajevo media that
the date has been harmonised also with representatives of local
authorities and officials of other international organisations
active in Bosnia.
Ashdown's office in Bosnia is expected to substantially increase
Great Britain's role in the implementation of peace in Bosnia. The
new High Representative can count on Prime Minister Tony Blair and
his support at any moment given their long-standing personal and
political friendship.
Ashdown's arrival will also bolster the overall engagement of
Europe's countries in the Dayton peace process. It has been
confirmed in London that both deputy High Representatives in the
future will be Europeans, one from France and one from Germany.
Until now, an American has always held one of the two posts.
