ZAGREB, April 16 (Hina) - The Croatian Helsinki Committee (HHO)
Media Council has said that a statement by Commercial Bank Zagreb
(PBZ) director Bozo Prka on plans to sue the "Jutarnji list" daily
for quoting a statement by Prime Minister Ivica Racan is "an
inadmissible act of pressure on the media and an attack on freedom
of information". #L#
"Jutarnji list" of Monday quoted Prime Minister Racan as saying
that he had been warned of "possible problems in the PBZ and
Splitska Banka".
Quoting a statement by the prime minister does not constitute the
spreading of rumours, the HHO said in a statement.
PBZ director Bozo Prka yesterday announced a lawsuit against
"Jutarnji list", adding that the bank was not considering legal
action against Prime Minister Racan, "who supported the PBZ,
realising its importance, and in a way apologised for any
inconvenience that may have arisen through false interpretations
of talks among coalition partners".
