The Albanian population in southern Serbia previously rejected
participation in the census because it did not take into account
those persons who fled to Kosovo due to the recent conflict in the
region.
Haziri estimates that about 3,200 Albanians from Bujanovac
municipality are currently in Kosovo. Albanians from three
municipalities in the Presevo valley did not take part in the 1991
census and Albanian sources claim that at least 80,000 Albanians
live in southern Serbia.
