The Catholic Church cerebrates May 12 as the international Media
Day. For this year's, 36th Media Day, Pope John Paul II issued a
special message dedicated to spreading Evangelism over the
Internet as a new media.
The Committee said in its message signed by the chairman, Rijeka
Archbishop, Ivan Devcic, that the Church wants to stimulate the
faithful to self-education to become more able to "differentiate
and recognise those media which are in the service of good from
those in the service of various selfish, ideological or political
interests, and to be more critical towards articles in various
media whose aim is to manipulate, stir the lowest human instincts,
or be a source of profit at any cost".
