The agreement was voted for by the Democratic Party of Serbia whose
members did not take part in the discussion on the agreement because
the majority of the Assembly rejected a proposal that their party's
president, Vojislav Kostunica speak at the end of the discussion
instead of the beginning.
Apart from the Opposition, the agreement was voted against by two
parties in the government, the Democratic Christian Party of Serbia
headed by Vladan Batic who is the Serbian Justice Minister, and the
New Serbia run by Velimir Ilic, the mayor of Cacak.
Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Djindic stated that Serbia and
Montenegro "aren't losing anything", with the adopted agreement
"just as they won't with the future Constitution". Three years down
the track a joint state would once again be elected, he said.
After the agreement was adopted, Djindic said that he was convinced
that he could enable the joint state to "implement its interests in
relation to the international community".
Once the agreement had been adopted, Opposition MP's grumbled
unhappily and the loudest amongst them was the leader of the Serbian
Radical Party, Vojislav Seselj who called out to ruling MP's that
they were "Ustashi". Radical MP, Natasa Jovanovic at one stage
cried out, "Good on you, Ustashi, you voted for what you wanted.
You're a disgrace to Serbia".
