One of the protesters said that the protest would resume until their
demands were met.
Three of 12 protesters who have been on a hunger strike for four days
have discontinued the strike following a doctor's warning that
their condition could deteriorate, one policeman said. The other
nine laid-off policemen will continue refusing food despite
appeals by Prime Minister Ivica Racan and his deputy Drazen Budisa
to discontinue the strike, he added.
The laid-off police yesterday demanded that Interior Minister Sime
Lucin and Zagreb police head Ivan Babic resign over what they
described as the illegal arrest of four protesters and false
informing of the public about a police operation on the night of the
arrest.
