"I would not want to speculate and will be able to comment on that
after the meeting," Racan told reporters at today's Day of
Entrepreneurs event.
The recent crisis in the Zagreb city leadership was resolved with
the election of mayor Pavic and what remains to be done is to elect
the city leadership, said President Stjepan Mesic, who also
attended the event. The city administration should work, he added.
"We must not be hostages to anyone's ambitions that are outside of
the institutions of the system," Mesic said, adding he did not know
why anybody would want a new election in the capital.
Zagreb mayor Vlasta Pavic submitted her resignation only one month
after her appointment. An SDP official said last night the ruling
city coalition, which comprises the SDP and the Croatian People's
Party (HNS) could not function properly. The proposal on Pavic's
resignation will be included in the agenda of tomorrow's session of
the Zagreb City Assembly.
