This is a rough amount Potkonjak said and added the bank managed to
pay this amount owing to its balance of accounts and solvency.
According to him, very few banks would manage to survive this
crisis.
Last week the Supervisory Board of Rijecka Banka decided to accept
the resignation of the bank's three-member management board,
headed by Ivan Stokic. Representatives of the Croatian
National Bank (HNB), Milan Potkonjak and Sonja Stojevic, were
appointed chairman and member of the management
board, said Rijeka mayor and member of the bank's Supervisory
Board, Vojko Obersnel.
A hearing is being held at the Rijeka County Court in the case
against Eduard Nodilo, the bank's main stockjobber, who
was arrested on suspicion of embezzlement. The head of the foreign
currency sector, Snjezana Podobnik, was also arrested on suspicion
of assisting Nodilo in foul dealings.
Investigating judge Sajonara Culina is expected to give a
statement.
