BELGRADE, March 26 (Hina) - As of March 20, former commander of the
Republika Srpska army, Ratko Mladic, is no longer privy to the
Yugoslav army's security, but is being guarded only by two unarmed
civilians, Belgrade's daily "Blic" said in Tuesday's issue, citing
"a well-informed source who wished to remain anonymous". #L#
Blic writes that about thirty members of Yugoslav elite units
guarded Mladic from June 22, 1999. The guard unit was formed under
the orders of the army's Chief-of-Staff Nebojsa Pavkovic, but was
not financed by the army, but "individuals from Republika Srpska".
The Serbian Interior Ministry on March 20 demanded that the unit be
disengaged, and a report submitted as to where Mladic stayed in the
past three years and who he met, as well as other documents. This,
however, was not done, so "all vehicles and weapons were
withdrawn".
The chief task of the unit was to make Mladic "invisible". Blic's
source says that media information that Mladic had contacted anyone
since June 1999, lived at Ban Hill in Belgrade was not true. The same
source says Mladic did not visit Republika Srpska since June 1999.
