Although satisfied with the crisis having been resolved, Racan said
he remained cautious. He said he would not tolerate an unstable
coalition and new crises, and that if a crisis reoccurred, he would
have only one solution - to resign.
Addressing reporters after today's marathon meeting of the
coalition leadership, Racan said the coalition had made another
step forward in the definition of joint stands on major reform
issues, strategic projects, as well as concrete issues such as the
relationship with the International Monetary Fund, the
International Criminal Tribunal for former Yugoslavia in The
Hague, etc.
Racan said there was agreement in the coalition on cooperation with
the Hague tribunal, on accepting the tribunal's requests and
cooperating with it, and on not initiating changes to the
Constitutional Law on Cooperation with the ICTY and the ICTY
Statute.
Agreement in principle will have to be proven once many issues come
to the agenda, including possible new Hague indictments, he said.
The prime minister confirmed the coalition partners had agreed on
the need to continue cooperating with the International Monetary
Fund (IMF), adding the new arrangement with the IMF should not be as
strict as the current one.
Racan said the coalition partners accepted the government's four-
year programme as well as this year's programme. The coalition will
not draw up or sign any special programme document, but it will have
a working document which its members may sign. However, the
document will have an internal character, he said.
Racan said he would accept Economy Minister Goranko Fizulic and
Transport Minister Alojz Tusek's resignations early next week,
when he is also to initiate procedure for the election of new
government members, including Drazen Budisa.
Today's meeting of the coalition leaders was not attended by
Liberal Party (LS) president Zlatko Kramaric.
