ZAGREB, Feb 28 (Hina) - Deputy Prime Minister Goran Granic, who has
been asked by his party (HSLS) to resign, told Croatian Radio on
Thursday his future political engagement might include an MP seat
for some time.
Asked if he would leave the HSLS (Social Liberals), Granic said it
was the first and only party for him as he is a liberal by
conviction.
He declined to speculate on the possibility of early elections as
the government worked well and the situation was not outstanding.
New elections are not good for Croatia as a whole series of reforms
is underway and a new ballot would only slow them down, he said.
Speaking about HSLS president Drazen Budisa, Granic said Budisa's
actions brought him into conflict with certain things, but declined
to elaborate.
Granic confirmed he and Budisa used to be friends. The key issue in
the falling out was the implementation of decisions by the UN war
crimes tribunal at The Hague, Granic said, but added that a whole
set of circumstances had contributed to it.
