ZAGREB, Feb 18 (Hina) - Parliament's Internal Policy and National
Security Committee convened on Monday to discuss Croatia's
government-proposed defence and national security strategies,
which parliament is to tackle at its 20th session, starting on
Wednesday.
In his introductory speech, Deputy Prime Minister Goran Granic said
the national security strategy was Croatia's identity card, a key
philosophy the state uses to define itself in relation to itself as
a democratic society, to the neighbours, and the constitutional
order.
There are many reasons for adopting the strategy, said Granic,
including the fact that Croatia cannot progress further in its
integration into the Euro-Atlantic system without stating in such
documents what it is and what it wants to be.
He stressed there should be no political disagreements in
connection with the national security strategy as it sets the
foundations of the policy of the Croatian state, which he said must
be built independently of the party in power.
Granic announced the government would soon tackle draft proposals
for reforms of security services.
