ZAGREB, Feb 2 (Hina) - The International Criminal Tribunal for the
former Yugoslavia (ICTY) will most likely on Tuesday decide whether
to release General Rahim Ademi from detention until the beginning
of a trial, First Deputy Premier Goran Granic said at Zagreb's
airport Friday night on his return from The Hague. He expressed hope
that The Hague-based Tribunal will make a positive decision.
Granic, who is president of Croatia's council for cooperation with
the UN war crimes tribunal at The Hague (ICTY), conveyed at an ICTY
session the Croatian government's guarantees for the temporary
release of general Rahim Ademi pending trial, and the ICTY Panel of
Judges said it would make a decision subsequently.
Granic also said that about two weeks ago Croatia informed the ICTY
Prosecution in writing that about 900 documents, demanded by the
Prosecution, were ready to be handed over. The ICTY Prosecution
referred to these undelivered documents as the evidence of
Croatia's alleged failure to cooperate with the ICTY.
In return, Granic assessed The Hague Tribunal led the entire
procedure in a fair manner, and expressed satisfaction with having
a chance to say the Croatian government "was fulfilling its
obligations in a disciplined manner and very professionally".
Such activities of the Croatian government are strengthening
General Rahim Ademi's position, Granic said.
Granic also met with eight Croats at Scheveningen prison.
