ZAGREB, Jan 1 (Hina) - The influx of unemployed Homeland War veterans into the Croatian Employment Bureau (HZZ) next week could exceed the number of 40,000 unemployed citizens of Croatia, the Bureau fears. The new war veterans law
stipulates that unemployed veterans, widows and children of killed veterans have February 8 to report to the HZZ so they can receive 900 kuna in compensation for unemployment. According to the Bureau's statistics, 34,000 demobilised veterans have been exercising this right so far, while the number of those who have not yet registered is still unknown. "This should not have been done in this way as it will exert additional pressure on the Bureau," the Bureau's director, Sanja Crnkovic-Prozaic said. Because of the newly registered veterans, widows and children, the registered unemployment rate will certainly exceed the 385,000 people currently registered with the Bureau.(hina) lml sb
