UMAG, Dec 31 (Hina) - Croatia's Prime Minister Ivo Sanader on Wednesday toured Istria County and held talks with local authorities and representatives of ethnic Italians.

On this occasion, PM Sanader said that his cabinet "will take more
decisive steps on the road towards the European Union and membership
in NATO than the previous government did" and announced his meeting
with European Commission President Romano Prodi on the matter for 12
January.
"This government is the government of all citizens, and for it
minorities are the wealth rather than problem," said Sanader who today
met representatives of the Italian minority from in the Bujstina
region, and ethnic Italian deputy to the Sabor, Furio Radin.
Commenting on the most important items of the new government's agenda
in the home policy, the PM pointed out plans for improving the
standard of living and creation of more jobs.
In its foreign policy, the Sanader government will try to improve
relations with neighbours: Serbia-Montenegro, Bosnia-Herzegovina and
Slovenia following the model set by Zagreb's relations with Italy and
Hungary.
Sanader also announced his trips in the coming period to Berlin, the
Vatican and Rome where he would talk with his Italian counterpart
Silvio Berlusconi.
The new Croatian PM commenced his visit to Istria County with the
talks with County Prefect Ivan Jakovcic who notified him of crucial
development programmes for the largest Croatian peninsula such as the
local highway, the construction of gas pipelines' network, the Brijuni
National Park and a new county hospital.
Talking to reporters, PM Sanader voiced satisfaction with and his
support to the ambitious programmes.
Sanader, Sabor President Vladimir Seks, and their associates will be
in the resort of Umag on New Year's Eve
