on Wednesday. #L#
Secretary general Dorica Nikolic did not state the reasons why
Budisa resigned or other details of his decision.
Immediately after the November 23 parliamentary polls,
dissatisfied with the election results of the coalition of the HSLS
and the Democratic Centre, Budisa said he would not run for the
party president any more, adding, however, that he would not submit
a resignation until the HSLS election assembly scheduled for
January 17, 2004.
Also dissatisfied with the election results, the HSLS Zagreb County
Council demanded resignations of the entire party leadership,
apart from the two vice presidents who passed the election
threshold and entered parliament -- Djurdja Adlesic and Ivan
Cehok.
The HSLS leadership, which convened last Saturday, decided the
party would enter a coalition with the Croatian Democratic Union
and adopted Budisa's report on the HSLS work in which he assumed
responsibility for the party's poor election results. Other
members of the party leadership also assumed responsibility for the
election defeat.
