Addressing the last session of the incumbent commission for the
construction of the Zagreb-Split highway on Tuesday, Racan said
that the reintroduction of the model of the state financing of
highway construction or a change of the current model of financing
would discontinue highway construction and be a step backward.
The head of the Croatian Highways management, Stanko Kovac, said
that this year, about 150 kilometres of highways were built. There
is a plan to construct an additional 200 kilometres in 2004, he
added.
In the period from 2001 to 2005, a total of 19.4 billion kuna should
be invested in the construction, maintenance and repair of
highways. Of this amount, 1.2 billion will be spent on maintenance
and 1.1 million on repairs.
