ZAGREB, Dec 10 (Hina) - On the occasion of International Human
Rights Day on Wednesday, the Centre for the Protection of Human
Rights of Imprisoned and Missing Citizens of Croatia and Members of
Their Families appealed to top Croatian officials to launch an
initiative to change the statute of the UN war crimes tribunal for
the former Yugoslavia in The Hague (ICTY). #L#
The organisation sent an open letter to Croatian President Stjepan
Mesic, Prime Minister-designate Ivo Sanader and the presidents of
parliamentary parties, saying that the Hague tribunal was not
competent for "a crime against peace" or "a crime of aggression".
The letter said that the tribunal's statute did not regard war as a
crime, which it said was inconceivable for a court founded by the UN
Security Council.
